TEAM – The Teacher Education Academy for Music, Future-Making, Mobility and Networking in Europe – was a pan-European collaborative research and development network. Throughout its duration, the project brought together partners from across Europe to rethink and advance both initial and continuing music teacher education as well as music education in schools. TEAM addressed key challenges and opportunities in the field, including music teacher professionalization, digital transformation, intercultural learning, future-oriented education, sustainability, and social cohesion.

To achieve these goals, TEAM developed evidence-based, future-oriented Open Educational Resources (OERs) focusing on sustainability, democratization, and digitalization for both initial and continuing Music Teacher Education. The project also strengthened international mobility in music teacher education, with a particular emphasis on school internships abroad supported by high-quality mentoring. Comprehensive mappings of Music Education and Music Teacher Education across participating countries provided valuable evidence and created a foundation for future collaboration.

The TEAM Learning Outcomes synthesized the knowledge generated throughout the project and resulted in a curricular policy paper advocating for excellent Music Education and Music Teacher Education across Europe.

TEAM deliberately adopted a broad and systemic approach to address current challenges facing music education in Europe and to stimulate sustainable change. In doing so, the project helped establish a long-term European music education network. Close cooperation from the outset with European music associations, particularly with the EAS (European Association for Music in Schools), ensured that TEAM’s impact extends beyond the official end of the project. By fostering international collaboration, innovation, and knowledge exchange, TEAM contributes to shaping more resilient, inclusive, and forward-looking approaches to music teacher education and school music education across Europe.

The consortium consisted of 13 partner institutions — including training schools and institutions for initial and continuing Music Teacher Education — from 11 European countries, bringing together extensive expertise in all relevant fields. Their work was supported by a large network of Associated Partners from the consortium countries, 24 countries in total, and several music-related European and worldwide networks.
